What are some events which support the claim that America was an imperialist power?

Between 1776 and WWII

and why do the events support the notion that America is an imperialist nation?

~To keep it short, I’ll just mention the Lakota, the Commanche, the Cherokee (and all of the rest of the Heathen Red Peril), Matthew Perry and the Black Ships and the Yellow Peril, the Inuit and the Blue Peril (it’s cold up there), Mexico and Texas and the Brown Peril, Cuba and the Philippines and the Tan Peril, Barbary and the Black Peril, Panama and the Green Peril (malaria will do that), Costa Rica and Nicaragua and the Orange Peril (United Fruit Company and their citrus). Well, you fill in the rest of the spectrum. The US is an equal opportunity conqueror and does not discriminate on the basis of color. But the exploits after WWII are even more obscene. But I am grateful that the moon was uninhabited; at least we’ve kept out exploitation and annihilation on a planetary level – so far.

What combination of events needs to happen for the Philadelphia Eagles to make the playoffs?
Not looking for answers like "act of God" or something. I know they need to win every game from now til the playoffs, but I think certain teams have to lose too. Anyone know the details?

1. Eagles have to win all their remaining games.
2. The Falcons have to lose at least 1 game.
3. Dallas have to lose a game also.

What are major events in the 20th century concerning police and minority relations?

February 242010

Posted in events | 1 Comment »

Im helping my friend with her sociology paper. her idea is to find articles about major events in 20th century concerning police and relations with minorities. For example, for the 1990s Rodney King & the L.A. Riots. For 2000s, post-9/11 racial profiling. What about other decades in the 1900s?

The 1960s-1970s are also an important period to look at, the uprisings in Watts and Newark being major examples. The Black Panther Party dealt a lot with this issue.

How can I handle multiple KeyDown events in Silverlight and WPF?

February 182010

Posted in events | 1 Comment »

If I am creating a silverlight video game and I want to handle multiple keydown events, like a player pressing the right and up arrow buttons at the same time, how do I do that, since KeyEventArgs only gives me the latest button that was pressed?

Is it by starting a storyboard based on the KeyDown and KeyUp events?

Also, any tips on not making the animated images blur so much? Thanks.

What are at least 20 news events that happened over the summer?

February 162010

Posted in events | 3 Comments »

My school has current events quizzes, so I need to know 20 news events that happened over the summer. Please no celebrity news. Not to much sports, but some. Political is the best. Both national and international.

1. Ted Kennedy’s death,

2.Michael Jackson’s, even though you said no celebrity, that was big news.

3.The fact Jackson’s doctor was giving him anesthesia in his house but no surgery, sorry, but news.

4.North Korea was threatening to shoot missiles at the US on the 4th of July, but didn’t.

5.Swine flu is still around and has killed a few hundred people and they think it could come back.

6. President Obama’s health care plan has not passed, many are for and against it.

7. St. Louis Cardinals are 9 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the National league Central Division (sorry but could not resist that)

8. A girl kidnapped 18 years ago was found today (August 27) and apparently had 2 kids by her kidnapper.

Sorry, that’s all I can come up with. Good luck

Look in Wikipedia under 2009. They have a month by month review of the year. See if there is anything you can use. One big one I forgot was

9. the Air France crash in the Atlantic off Brazil

10. The collision of a plane and helicopter over the Hudson River, killing all on board both. Close to where the plane safely went down in January.

11. Protests about President Obama’s health care plan, related to #6. Senators and Congressmen and women are being booed at Town Hall meetings.

12. Weird weather all over. Droughts in Texas, too much rain in the Northeast; cool weather in the midwest in July and August, hot, dry weather in normally cool, wet Northwestern US.

13. Wild fires in California

14. Nearly total economic collapse in California’s government and in other state, and local governments.

15. Car companies going bankrupt, Chrysler, GM

16. Cash for clunkers, people turn in old, gas guzzlers for new cars with a $4500 or so rebate. Old cars are destroyed completely.

What are some events in your life that shaped the person you are today?
(Such as: your first car, your first steady job, the day you graduated high school)
Why were they so important? Why do you think they shaped the person you are today?

my mom died when I was three
my dad was an alcoholic, and abandoned me
i was kidnapped and raped
my boyfriend died last year
now I know there is no real love in the world, don’t hold on to anything cuz whatever it is you will either lose it or it will leave you.

What is appropriate for guys to wear to formal events?

February 112010

Posted in events | 5 Comments »

I understand what is appropriate for me to wear as a girl to events, whether semi-formal or formal with different dresses. But I am going to a semi-formal dinner event at my dorm with my boyfriend, and he asked me how formal it was and what he should wear! What do guys wear to different formal events. What’s the difference between suits and tuxedos opposed to just a nice shirt with jeans?

He should probably if it is a semi-formal dinner, wear a suit at least. That means nice pants (slacks), dress socks, dress shoes, a nice shirt, a tie, and a suit jacket. You should probably match him in terms of color and style.

The option rests with you guys whether or not to wear flowers (boutonniere and corsage).

Overall, get dressed up and have a good time!!

What program allows me to use a single list of events for multiple calendars?

February 92010

Posted in events | 2 Comments »

I wish to create several different calendars, all with the same events. As this is for an organisation, we have a large number of events, and I don’t want to insert the same events for each of the calendars. Is there any software (Microsoft Publisher?) or online program that allows you to create a list of events which can be automatically inserted into multiple calendar templates?

KeepandShare.com has an online calendar that does a great job of this. Accounts are free. Depending on whether you want to control access by multiple folks you could create multiple accounts.

But, more simply, since each account includes 9 separate calendars, you could create your event calendar "1", and then use KeepandShare’s ‘overlay’ feature to bring that Calendar1 into your Calendar2, into Calendar3, calendar4 etc. Then you can do any customization in cal2,3,4 you like without changing cal1, and any changes you make to cal1 are instantly picked up by cal2,3,4.

Powerful sharing controls and beautiful PDF printing round out the picture.
