Farah Aliyeva, the festival organiser said: “Everyone loves jazz in Bakou. In the past, all the musicians wanted to come here because we were a jazz city. So since the start of the 21st century, we have been organising festivals. This year is the seventh one. Bakou could become a Mecca for jazz lovers. We want to make Bakou the capital of jazz. We really do.”
I love this place ’cause I can speak with a fake English accent all day long and pretend I’m in a Monty Python movie. If you’re a single woman you’re guaranteed to find a knight in shining armor. Ha. It’s a big costume party and you can get hooked up with some period dress right on site. Actors stay in character and the “kingdom” is made up of permanent structures that look totally authentic. It could be Middle Earth if you know what I mean. Everything is “Ye Olde” like the Ye Old giant turkey legs that you can rip apart to the Ye Olde Coffee Shoppe where you can get a Ye Olde latte. There’s a place to whiz tomatoes at unruly peasants’ heads, make funny wax “hang loose” molds of your hand, and I usually never leave without getting an elephant to chauffer me around. It’s definitely a throw back in time. It’s total Ye Olde sweet. See more about cool Minnesota stuff at My Favorite Minnesota http://www.exploreminnesota.com/myfavoriteminnesota/

Oshun or Osun is a Yoruba goddess that is associated with erotic beauty, gold and rivers. Awo Osun, a New York society of Oshun worshipers, gathers by the Hudson River every summer to honor the deity and pay respects to ancestors. Everyone comes dressed in white, as is customary for Yoruba festivals. I unfortunately showed up dressed in black. But I was warmly welcomed and no one seemed to mind that I was running around with a video camera. The Priest calls on Oshun with song. He then uses ginko nuts to perform a reading. I love the idea that the Hudson and East Rivers are inhabited by deities from the worlds religions.
This video was shot in July of 2003. The Harbor Series is a series of short videos about the ritual and cultural uses of the New York waterfront and was inspired by the Village Voice article: Holy Waters, by Erik Baard Fort Washington Park, Manhattan, 2003 runtime: 00:04:50

I’m talking about Camra beer festivals but you can mention small independent pub run events if you like. I’ve only been to the Cambridge beer festival so far, but I shall definitely go to Peterborough and Norwich and might do a couple of others.

Didn’t make Cambridge this year (I’m normally one of the stewards there)

So far have worked Exeter Winter Ales, Reading & just got back from Great Welsh Beer festival in Cardiff

Have been to Derby as a drinker, and a non CAMRA event at Barrow Hill Roundhouse in Chesterfield.

Still have plans to work Exeter Summer Fest (next month), Great British Beer Fest (August), York (Sept) and possibly Woking (Nov)

I should get to Newton Abbot (Sept) as a drinker but other than that it depends on what’s on when I have time off work.

Not impressed with Peterborough, they let too many in for the size of the tents making it overcrowded at night, but might visit during the day as my fiancee is from Peterborough.

In 2001, Brendt Barbur, Founder and Director, was compelled to start the Bicycle Film Festival after being hit by a bus while riding his bike in New York City. Instead of being deterred by this experience, it inspired him to create a festival that celebrates the bicycle through music, art, and film. Now in its tenth year the festival is held in 37 cities worldwide. 300,000 people are expected to attend this year.

For the second year, BFF Art Director Marco Mucig filmed the trailer supported by the soundtrack of Scuola Furano (http://www.scuolafurano.com).
Marco is an italian director, artist and designer. He has a delicate and a very personal imagery. He signed several video-clips, trailers and TV formats. You can follow his adventures here: http://www.snowgroup.net.
