Why does this piece deserve to be included in a gallery setting? What makes the piece successful?

Subject matter (dog, horse, landscape etc) has very little to do with whether it is good enough to hang in a gallery. If a work is good it is good for aesthetic reasons other than subject matter,

Right click on an image and choose open with>default program (‘choose program’ in xp)

from there you will be able to choose the default program you want to open youre images
(in youre case choose Windows Picture And Fax Viewer)

My father does photography and we thought about opening an art gallery. How much would it cost to open an art gallery and what would be the monthly expenses?
Please and thank you.
Let’s say in Portland, OR.
Let’s say I wanted to open a gallery in Portland, OR.

HOW…. on …. Earth …. do you expect anyone to tell you that? If you are THAT naive about business, you better just forget the whole idea.

A location in a bad area in a small town might cost $500 a month, a shop in a nice area in a larger town might cost over $5000 a month. Then you have operating expenses, which will again vary greatly. You have business license, accountant fees, insurance fees, and how are you planning on working with any displaying artists? How much will you take from any sells? Are you going to charge for wall space? I hope you don’t think your Father "doing photography" is going to finance and support this whole thing.

This question is simply another variation of the never ending "what do I name my photography business" questions seen on here almost hourly by totally clueless people as pertains to business knowledge. An art gallery is a business much like any other. I suggest you get in some business courses / classes if this is something you want to pursue in the future.

I’m having trouble understanding the mechanisms and physics behind a whispering gallery mode, and what the term really means.. Care to explain?

Whispering galleries are typically inside domes, like on top of some of the major cathedrals around the world… like Notre Dame in Paris. They are called whispering galleries because one can stand on one side of the dome and someone else can stand on the diametrical other side and the two can whisper into the wall on their respective sides and be clearly heard by the person on the other side. [See source.]

The physics is straightforward. The curvature of the walls and dome focuses the sound of the whisper to exactly the diametrical other side. We see sound focusing at work when the TV networks have someone along the sidelines at a football game use a parabolic shaped receiver to pick up the sounds of the smashing and groaning of the heavy hitting out on the field.

As to the "mode" word; that simply means "like" or "in the manner of" as in "in the manner of a whispering gallery"

Either buy the paontings outright from the artist (usually a lot of work or all of their output) or display paintings for a fee & commission on sales. You do it whatever way you like or can negotiate. The gallery usually does framing as well. Difficult business!

I am wanting to set up an online gallery for my friend who was recently married. The gallery would be for all the guests to upload their photos so that the bride and groom (and all of us too) can get a complete set at high resolution of everyone’s photos. It would be good if the site didn’t require lengthy or complicated signup processes and it can be a private gallery.

http://www.dropgallery.com/
DropGallery was created by people who love their photographs as much as you love yours. It gives and easy way to backup, sync, and share your photos. You can install DropGallery on any computer that you would like to sync some, or all of your photos with.

http://www.mylivegallery.com/

MyLiveGallery enables you to instantly create live galleries, photo albums and slideshows online. Use it to turn your photos into attractive galleries and share them with others. It is as easy as 1-2-3. Just specify the name, upload your pictures, select a theme and the gallery is ready.

http://www.cloudfireit.com/

CloudFire is a fast way to share all your photos and videos with people you know. There is no uploading, reorganizing, transcoding – just share it and let CloudFire do the rest.

http://www.dphoto.com/

DPHOTO lets you easily share your photos with family and friends in your own online gallery, while also creating secure backup of all your precious memories.

http://tabblo.com/

A tabblo is a collection of photos and words brought together by a stylized template that can be customized to your heart’s content. A tabblo lives at a permanent URL and can be private, accessed by whoever you invite, or public for the whole world to see.

http://www.yogile.com/

Yogile is a photo sharing service that makes it incredibly easy to share images privately and within groups. Take a wedding for example. Dozens of attendees take their own photos, all from different cameras and angles. While you might try asking everyone for their shots afterward, Yogile offers a smart alternative by giving everyone your customized album URL or e-mail address.

http://www.troovi.com/

Troovi is an easy photo exchange platform to share your photos in high quality. There’s no need to register – Simply choose the photos you want to share and upload them. To share the photos with others all you have to do is to send them your unique link.

http://www.expono.com/

A safe place to store, organize and share your photos. A feature rich social photo sharing platform built with your privacy, data portability and security in mind. With Expono your photos are stored in their original formats and sizes. Your originals are kept unmodified for backup and restore purposes. Photos uploaded are location tagged automatically if they contain GPS information. You define who can see this information in your privacy settings. And there are so many other features as well.
