The only one I know of is the art museum. I’ve been there twice and it never gets any more interesting :D

I am mainly looking for natural history or space museums, but any museum will do. Maybe a medical museum or a history museum. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.
Come on people. I really need an answer quick. My brother is in town and we need to go TODAY! Thanks again.

I just planned a vacation in Rome for next week, but will the museums be open?

I know Carnival season is in full swing next week, but what about the museums? Anyone know if they’ll be shut down? I was really wanting to see all of Rome’s historical sites as well, and the Vatican.

No problem, everything will be open, Rome doesn’t really place much importance on the Carnival period.
Remember, the last Sunday in the month the Sistine Chapel is free. Get there early, it will be full.

How can you dress in the museums and churches of Italy?

I have only heard once that in Italy you can’t wear tanktops and shorts for the museums and churches, mausoleums, etc….
Is this true because I like to wear alot of tanktops and shorts, It’s pretty much everything in my wardrobe, so is this true!!??

Short-shorts are not acceptable in Italy under any circumstance (except at the beach). No Italians wear them in cities and it’s considered very tacky and unattractive. Bermuda shorts are very popular this season when worn with a nice shoe (high-heeled or embellished flat) and they would be fine inside a Church. Larger churches (the Duomo in Milan, St. Marks in Venice, etc.) don’t allow women to enter with bare shoulders. The best solution is to carry a really light-weight shawl in your purse and wrap it around your shoulders before entering.

The dress codes are there because churches are sacred places where people go to worship. Even if you’re not religious it’s important to show respect to those who are. I am an atheist but I still believe in showing respect to people inside their place of worship, whether it’s a church or a temple or a shrine.

Another important thing inside Italian churches is to obey the rules regarding photography, and NEVER EVER take flash photographs during a church service. This is one of the most obscene acts I have ever witnessed, and it’s performed en masse by ignorant tourists (unfortunately, they are usually American).

What museums in France can you not where shorts in?

In other words…what museums do they want you to look nice in? I heard that some museums there don’t allow you to where shorts. Which ones in France are they?

Your thinking of Notre Dame and Sacre Cour. These are still churches and it is a sign of disrespect not being fully clothed. It is the same with churches in most of European, particularly Roman Catholic churches.

What are the best museums to see in DC?

My boyfriend and I are going to DC for 2 nights in January and can not decide what to see. We have both been there before but never together and we can not decide what museums or sites to see. Since we have a short amount of time and limited funds-what do you suggest?

All the Smithsonian museums, the National gallery of Art and the Holocaust memorial museum are free. (There are others, too, but these are notable.)

My favorites are: The National Gallery of Art, both buildings, the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Air and Space museum, the National Museum of Natural History and the National Holocaust Memorial Museum. But check out the whole Smithsonian (start your visit at the castle) and follow your interests. You’ll enjoy most what interests you.

Make sure you visit the Memorials down the mall – this is a good thing to do in the evening when the museums are closed.

Free tours of the Capitol, Washington Monument, LIbrary of Congress, and of course a visit to the ARchives could also be listed.

Are most of the significant items in museums looted?

And what would the worlds museums be like if looting hadn’t taken place, would the best museums be in egypt and china for example?

YES!!! National treasures are very valuable, and are usually the first things stolen in moments of war (a common occurance, dating back centuries). Imagine the entire value of the Louvre, or the Smithsonian.

Are there any museums containing Godzilla in Tokyo?

For those who have been in Japan. Is there any exsisting museum that has Godzilla related exhibits or are there any museums that contain Japanese movie cinema as the theme?

I tried looking up this info on the internet but all I found are fan websites that have nothing to do with an actual museum.
Or Gojira as it’s called in Japan.

Unfortunatly there is no permanent Godzilla exhibition in Japan.

There are two locations in Tokyo where you can see a Godzilla statue.

One is in Hibiya Chanter (Not Hibiya Park)

And at Toho Studio

In 2002, there was a limited time exhibit.

What do South Africans think of the state of their national museums?

I visited the old Transvaal Museum on Saturday and found myself disgusted with the overall maintenance of the facilities, as well as the displays, which have not been upgraded in over 25 years, pathetic.
Is culture not the backbone of a civilised society and surely with all the funds that the ANC frequently embezzles and abuses, funding could be found if the desire existed to upgrade these museums and other cultural facilities such as public libraries, etc?

The Port Elizabeth museum has never amounted to much pre and post 1994, I think once you have been overseas to their museums full of cultural treasures, everything looks so bland in comparison. I mean does any of the SA Museums own a Rembrandt? I do not think so. Public libraries are real bad now here in PE, was there yesterday in order to get books for my children ….. the books are so old and tatty, I really do not know when last did they buy any new books. As for municipal parks with swings, slides etc. as the things break they just never get replaced, our nearest park now only have the poles where the swings was and that is it, the slide, round a bout, and climbing frame have all rusted, crumbled and then was taken away, never to be replaced…

What are the best days (of the week) to visit museums in Italy?

January 242010

Posted in museums | 3 Comments »

Over the summer I am going to Italy with my family and we are planning on visiting many of the major museums (Uffizi, the Vatican, Pompeii, the Colosseums, etc…). We are already planning on booking reservations for the museums to avoid lines, but would like to know if there are any ’slow’ days of the week, to avoid large crowds in the museums, and what times of the day are best?

There really aren’t any slow days at the major museums during the peak tourist season. Pompeii is a huge outdoor space, so you really don’t have to worry about crowds there too much. In Florence, there’s a ticket booth on the back of the Orsanmichele which is on the main street running from the Duomo to Palazzo Vecchio where you can get tickets for the Uffizi, Accademia or other museums. I can’t remember ever seeing a line there. For the Colosseum, the lines are much shorter at the Palatine Hills or Forum ticket offices; you can get combined tickets there and bypass the line at the Colosseum. If you’ve prebooked reservations, you won’t need to do that though. Early is less crowded, but the lines start forming somewhat before the attractions open.

I need some really good books on art museums. It would help me out alot. thanks!
Im doing a project on world art. It could be any type of art. I need good books on Natures landmarks and man made. Statues and paintings. Just anything to do with art.
Or how about some magazines on art museums. That would also help alot!

The Two Art Histories, ed. by Charles W. Haxthausen
