The Metropolitan Museum does indeed have a good fashion collection.

Also, FIT (Fashion Institute of Design) has a nice little museum as well.

There are no Washington, D.C., museums in Baltimore. The D.C. museums are, guess where? D.C., of course!

If you decide to fly through the museums you won’t get much out of any of them. Slow down and pick those that will really interest you. I’d suggest the Museum of Natural History, Air and Space Museum and the National Gallery of Art and its Sculpture Garden. You can access all four sites from the National Mall (no, it isn’t a shopping mall). You can also see several monuments and the Capitol.

How long does it take to visit one museum? How many museums do people visit in a day?

The most visited (popular) is the Air & Space Museum on the Mall. After that, American History & Natural History. For any of those three you should prob allow a minimum of 2 hours. Many people take longer. The length of your visit is determined by things like how long you take to look at an exhibit—some will be very interesting & you’ll stay longer, with others of less appeal taking less time. When visiting any museum I recommend going to the things you want to see the most first (if you know), then if you run out of time you won’t be disappointed. Two museums on the Mall, Air & Space & Natural History show IMAX films (there’s a fee) so you should decide if you want to add a movie to your schedule.

How many in a day, you ask? Again it depends—if you are parents dragging around tired kids maybe one. On your own & feeling perky & starting early you could go thru the three I mentioned with time to eat. You’d be on museum overload tho (LOL). I’ve met people who don’t care about most exhibits, they just want to be able to say they looked around as many museums as possible (weird). They can make short visits to all the Mall museums in a day. They aren’t going into every exhibit hall or spending much time with what they do look at.

I’ve been to all of them many times over the years & always find something new.

I am writing a essay on what deters teenagers from visiting museums, galleries and museums in the UK. If you could answer with your views on what mainly deters you from visiting? and what you would go to museums, galleries and historic sites for? for example day trips with the family or friends? school projects? what would pull you there? Is interactive media an incentive?

Thanks very much, comments very much appreciated!

Well unless your a dork we only like museums if they are interactive and have things we can muck around with. Films i.e imax and 3D is always good because its interesting. Simulations are fun to. We don’t like standing there reading huge blocks of text.
