BlogTV 24hr Charity Event 2010, Sept 18 – (mirror of DPRJones’ vid)

I’ll be there. Last year’s event was great fun and raised $32,000 for Doctors Without Borders.
Actually I’ll be submitting a few especially-made NSC items to the charity auction. More info later.

Medecins Sans Frontieres (also known as Doctors without Borders) is an independent humanitarian organisation that provides medical care throughout the world, regardless or race, religion or politics. It was formed in 1971. It 1999 it won the Nobel Peace Prize; see:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzFtYO…

It is currently offering aid in over 60 countries.

Here are a number of their website;
MSF(UK)

MSF(US) (Doctors without Borders)

http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/

MSF(Australia)

http://www.msf.org.au/

MSF(Canada)

http://www.msf.ca/

The MSF(UK) youtube channel is here;

http://www.youtube.com/user/msfuk

Where you will find the videos used in the making of this video and in particular the Head of MSF(UK), Marc DuBois’ “thank you” video (made after last year’s event).

http://www.youtube.com/user/msfuk#p/u…

This year’s event is taking place with the full knowledge and support of MSF(UK). Indeed Marc DuBois will be appearing on this year’s show.

On MSF’s recommendation I have set up donation pages at the following sites;
Justgiving;

http://www.justgiving.com/dprjones24h…

Firstgiving;

http://www.firstgiving.com/dprjones

This is an effective, safe and secure method of making donations. No-one involved in the event is able to handle any of the money. It is transferred directly to the charity.

I have set the ambitious target of $75,000 because I have agreed with youtube user c0ct0pusprime to have a tattoo of “c0ct0pus” is we reach that figure.

This years event (a 24 hour blogtv show) will start on 18th September and will be similar to last year. As well as some of the “usual suspects” there will be new co-hosts, (for example Matt Dillahunty has provisionally agreed to appear). There are also new events and features that will make this year even better than last year. I will be posting more videos about this shortly.

Thank-you for watching the video and reading the description.

Also, a massive thank you to FactVsReligion for making this video. Thank you Fact!

    @chiffmonkey We eat them and are biologically designed to do so. So yes, I take it as a given.

    @TheArcaneRain ‘Even though, animals are clearly less worth saving than human lives, but whatever’.
    Says who? Do you just take that as a given?

    I have been …
    I have been supporting Medicins sans Frontiers with monthly donations for about two years now. And one of my main reasons for doing so, was because it was not a religious based organisation – unlike World Vision who I would never again support.

    I’m glad you’re …
    I’m glad you’re raising money to pay my wages! My first mission is to South Sudan, I should be in situ by July, but I’m currently on a course for MSF in Bonn.

    I saw Marc DuBois in London the day before flying out to Germany, seems like a nice guy.

    Unfortunately I won’t have internet connection at the project, so I won’t be able to follow the Youtube atheist community.

  8. Plecter says:

    I’ve been giving …
    I’ve been giving money to the red cross for 5 years now. I might start giving monthly to this aswell, I’ve just been too selfish.

    @TheArcaneRain my …
    @TheArcaneRain my father’s cousin have been working for them and other NGOs for the last 30 years and he is now in Congo, helping a small village to get water supply back on after a raid and before that, he was helping in refugee camps in Soudan.So I would gladly bet against you. And no, fraud is not the definition of capitalism, you can look in a dictionary or take some begginer level business lessons. Im not saying they are all safe to give to, but MSF is probably one of the best in the world.

  10. TheArcaneRain says:

    @JollyMunkie …
    @JollyMunkie Charities clearly are a scam because there’s a different charity to suit every kind of person. For example, animal charities, to appeal to animal lovers (Even though, animals are clearly less worth saving than human lives, but whatever). That’s capitalism at work.
    They use targetted marketing strategies and manipulative guilt trip persuasion to make their paycheck. I’m willing to bet that most of the money paid in, gets consumed by the organisation’s day-to-day operations.

  17. Astrobrant2 says:

    It is wonderful …
    It is wonderful what they are doing, but the problem will get worse without access to and education on birth control. I do hope that are helping along those lines. Many of these impacted areas have far too many people for the available resources.

  22. newspaniard says:

    As with Wateraid …
    As with Wateraid and NSPCC a small donation every month is far better than none. Delighted that you ran this. With other ‘charities’ using up 98% of their donations on ‘administration’ it is very pleasing to see the little that this charity uses.

  23. tunatallica says:

    would a pair of super sexy “red sin shoes” showcasing God’s Forgiveness be one of those special NSC items?

    Assuming you won’t – you.
