How do I contact a gallery about showing my work?

I am a painter, and I just recently put together enough work (I think) for a possible gallery show. How do I go about approaching galleries in order to show my work? Are there places that specialize in new or unknown artists?

Get a book called Artist’s and graphic designers market they have listings of galleries all around the world that accept new artists. Every gallery has a specific way of applying if you approch them the wrong way they might refuse you without looking at your work and that would be a waste of time. I would get the book they explain everything or go on the galleries web sites and find their way of submitting art work. But they don’t always give you that information or if they are accepting new work and what kind of artist work. One big no no is to go and approch the gallery without researching it first, if your work would fit in with the reat of the collection if they even sell your tipe of work, just go in there look around and see if you like it and if it is your ball of wax. and then get them your info through mail or whatever they want.one more thing it is a long process to be accepted .

Let me know because I like painting too. How many pieces is enough for a show?

Carry around your portfolio everywhere with you, and be sure to keep your contact information ready whenever you are.

Talk and meet as many people as you can, and always be sure to get a number or other means of contacting them afterwards.

Look up local art galleries and contact them (through either phone call or an arranged meeting (meeting is always the preferred method)). Depending on the type of art that you are doing, you may also want to contact organizations that relate to them and get your work around.

Approach as many galleries/organizations as possible, the more the better!

Always remember to smile, and RELAX! Confidence is key, but be sure not to be overconfident.

You could probably find what you’re looking for in the yellow pages. Please tell me when you find out, because I’m looking for the same thing too! Artists unite!!!!:)

I think going to some gallerys in your town in person would be best. Vist the gallery and then ask them if, are taking work from other artist?
