What is the word for performing a job without the official title?

For my resume I would like to say something like "acting as the unofficial Communications Director". Which is true, but my official title was something else. Is there a better word than unofficial that describes performing a job function without holding the title?

The term I would use is "de facto".

The definition is: Exercising power or serving a function without being legally or officially established. Examples: a de facto government; a de facto nuclear storage facility.

So you were a "De Facto Communications Director"

I think you want to keep it simple on a resume. Actually, you may omit ‘unofficial.’

    You could say:

In addition to my responsibilities as a / the ___________, I also performed (many of) the duties of the Communications Director.

In addition to my responsibilities as a / the ___________, I also acted as the Communications Director.

Regarding the latter, if anyone asks, you can explain it. ‘Acted’ does not imply that ‘Communications Director’ was your job title.
